For the fourth strait year, Veterans and their loved ones are invited to attend An Evening of Honor – the 2011 Geib Salute to area Veteran's. The evening’s program will include honoring our local heroes with a pinning ceremony, posting of the colors, a 21 gun salute from a local military funeral detail, and a key note address from Gil Cody, the director of the Ohio Western Reserve national cemetery. Dessert and refreshments will conclude the evening.

Jo Sehee - Executive Director - The Green Burial Council - North America's expert in emerging green burial practices.

Gordin Maupin - Executive Director - Foxfield Preserve at The Wilderness Center - Wilmot, Ohio, - the first not-for-profit nature preserve cemetery in the United States.

Brian Hanner - CT, CPC, CFSP of the Geib Funeral Homes, Cremtaories, and Remembrance Centers of Dover and New Philadelphia, Ohio. - Geib was the region's first funeral provider to earn certification from the Green Burial Council - and only the second in the State of Ohio.

Since earning certification, the Geib staff have pioneered the use of the first non-toxic embalming process, developed by the Champion Company and approved for use by the Green Burial Council, wherein formaldehyde is replaced by other disinfectants.

The funeral home also makes available locally forrested, hand made wooden caskets, as well as leightweight but durable burial shrouds. These products will be on display to allow visitors the opportunity to decide to which degree, or shade of "green" is best suited for their individual needs.

A $5 donation is made to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, Cats N' Us Shelter, and the Tuscarawas County Kennel Club in memory of each pet the Geib Pet Crematory has the honor of caring for. So far this year, the Geib family and staff have donated more than $1500 to these area organizations.

Love Still Blooms Dinner & Dance

This is a wonderful opportunity to gather with friends, celebrate relationships, eat a delicious meal, and enjoy fabulous music provided by local musicians.

The dinner dance will be held at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, 425 Prospect St. in Dover.

Beginning at 5:00 a silent auction and the 50/50 will kick off the evening. A 6 p.m., guests will enjoy a delicious dinner and wonderful piano music provided by our local talent, Rick Michel. Then, we'll enjoy the music of Recollections from 7 to 9 p.m.

Tickets are available at the Senior Center and are $15 per person.

Green Burial Preview This Tuesday

The Geib Funeral Homes, Crematories & Remembrance Centers of Dover and New Philadelphia have earned accreditation as the region's first approved provider of natural burial products and services by the Green Burial Council.

A special preview of our green, or natural burial, products and servics is set for this upcoming Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 6:30 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.

The evening program will feature the introduction of environmentally friendly, biodegradable caskets, burial shrouds and urns, including products made from bamboo and recycled materials.

We've sourced some casket manufacturing from local artisans in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint of our products.

Jennifer Quinn, the steward of Foxfield Preserve, Ohio's first nature preserve cemetery located in The Wilderness Center at Wilmot, just nine miles from the Geib Funeral Center, will be on hand to detail the conservation and ecological efforts underway at Foxfield Preserve. Quinn will discuss the nature preserve concept and how it blends environmentally into the Center's mission as a conservation organization.

Geib is this region's first provider to have earned accreditation from the Green Burial Council for its offering of conservation minded burial products and services. "The Geib organization is demonstrating visionary leadership in funeral service by embracing the consumer-driven trend toward eco-friendly burials" said Joe Sehee, executive director of The Green Burial Council.

Those were the residents who spent their Saturday nights on the downtown sidewalks.

Join master historian Fred Miller as he relives a walk down those sidewalks of the 1920¹s, looking into the windows of the businesses and the lives of the people who made up our County Seat.
